RELAINCE JIO ANNOUNCES FREE DOMESTIC VOICE CALLS FROM 1 JAN WHEREAS VODAFONE WANT USERS TO STEP OUT FOR THE 4G SIM UPGRADE
- Telecom giants Reliance Jio and Vodafone Idea have made major announcements.
- Jio has announced that it will stop charging its customers for off-net or Jio to non-Jio voice calls
- Vodafone is shutting down their 3G services in Delhi
Reliance Jio on Thursday announced that it would once again make off-net domestic voice calls free on its network starting January 1, 2021. The operator will restart its earlier practice over a year after it started charging its subscribers 6 paise a minute to make voice calls to other mobile networks. The fresh decision came as a result of the ‘Bill and Keep' regime that the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) is implementing in the country from January 1 that will end interconnect usage charges (IUC) for all domestic voice calls.
Reliance Jio has asked the telecom regulator to take strict action against Vodafone Idea and Bharti Airtel for resorting to "unethical" ways, spreading "frivolous rumors" that Jio will gain from the Farm Bills.
Retailers in Faridabad , Bahadurgarh, Chandigarh, Firozpur and other parts of NCR and Punjab have seen an increase in customers porting out of Reliance Jio and joining either Vodafone Idea or Bharti Airtel. Retailers have told ET that these areas are seeing farmers coming in droves and asking for a new SIM or filling up port out requests .
The Vodafone Have to stop 3G services in Delhi . Subscribers who did not upgrade their sim to 4G will get calling through 2G and there are no data services will not available on old sim connections
The year 2020 has brought about massive changes in consumer behaviors. While the data demand has grown manifold, telecom network today has become the mandatory layer to exist in a digital society. This has drawn focus on the criticality of 24x7 high-speed mobile network connectivity across both- commercial as well as residential areas," Vi had said in a statement.
This would force the subscribers to move to their nearby Vi store to upgrade their SIM to 4G to continue to get data and voice services on their phones. This would not have been a problem on normal days but during COVID, stepping out does not seem like the best idea. But in order to continue getting the data and calling services, Vodafone subscribers who do not have 4G SIM will need to step out and get the new SIM. However, Vodafone Idea is yet to make an official announcement about the same.
Jio was left with no option but to start charging its customers for off-net voice calls, at a rate exactly equivalent to the applicable IUC charge. While doing so, Jio had assured its users that this charge would continue only till the time Trai abolished IUC charges
From the 1 January 2021 The jio is giving free calls to everyone.Jio will once again make all off-net domestic voice calls free, starting 1 January 2021 and its on-net domestic voice calls have always been free on the Jio network.
